Board of Education
The Presidents Park Board of Education is dedicated to excellence in education and is committed to maintaining the integrity of our educational programs. Its members are highly qualified with outstanding credentials.

Winette Sparkman Jeffery, B.S., Elementary Education and Cross-Categorical Special Education, East Tennessee State University; has taught for 18 years; created two children’s television history series in Tennessee; author of four books; native of Nashville, Tennessee; currently is a Gifted Education Specialist and serves as the Chairperson of the Board of Education.

Chad Freeman, B.S., Secondary History Education, Appalachian State University (Magna Cum Laude), North Carolina Teaching Fellow Scholarship recipient; currently teaches World History and U.S. History.

Duanne M. Hawkins, Ed.D., Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, University of Virginia; M.Ed., College of William and Mary; B.A., Psychology, Mary Washington College; 15 years as a teacher; K-12 General Supervisor for 4 years; Principal for 15 years; Assistant Superintendent for 3 years; adjunct faculty member at Rappahannock Community College and Christopher Newport University; lifetime member of the King and Queen Historical Society.

Susan C. Leggett, M.Ed., College of William and Mary; B.S. in Psychology; worked four years in public education as a teacher of English and social studies; former elementary school principal; served on a local history/social studies curriculum committee; member of the King and Queen Historical Society; currently is Director of a pre-school educational program.

Barbara Lee Sanford, M.Ed., Special Education, College of William and Mary; B.S. Psychology, Mary Baldwin College; currently is a teacher of special needs students at the middle school level.

Steven Shaw, M.Ed., Old Dominion University; B.A., Political Science, East Tennessee State University; U.S. Army officer for 20 years; middle school social studies teacher for the past 13 years; Instructional Leader for 6 years; served on the Virginia Department of Education SOL Review Committee for Civics and Economics in 2003.

Betty Jane Turner, M.S., Teaching Social Studies, Mississippi University for Women; B.A., Social Sciences, Longwood College; has over 20 years experience in the field of education, including middle school, high school, and college levels; currently works as a middle school social studies teacher.

Laurie N. DiPadova-Stocks, Ph.D., Co-chair , Associate Professor of Public Affairs, Executive Director Haumptmann School of Public Affairs, Park University.

Hugh G. Stocks, Ph.D., Co-chair, University of California at Los Angeles; Director of Libraries and Associate Professor of Information Systems at Gateway Community and Technical College in Covington, Kentucky.

Florence Clay Bishop, Assistant Principal and teacher of history and government at Mills E. Godwin High School in Richmond, Virginia.

James A. Crutchfield, Historian and author from Franklin, Tennessee; has published 39 books with 3 more in progress, including a biography of George Washington; belongs to various historical organizations.

Theodore A. DiPadova, Ph.D. in History, Graduate Center of the City University of New York; Associate Professor of History and former Academic Vice President, University of New England, Biddeford, Maine.

David Hager, Ph.D., Political Science, University of Virginia; Vice Provost and Professor of Political Science, Old Dominion University, Norfolk, Virginia.

Dan McCool, Ph.D., University of Arizona; Professor of Political Science and Director of the America West Center, University of Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah; expertise in public policy theory and Indian policy.
